Students at Chester Township School Receive New Playground
Keystone Mercy Health Plan and School and Community Leaders Build New,
Safe Playground in One Day
Philadelphia, PA – More than 50 Keystone Mercy Health Plan employees, school leaders, board members, and volunteers from Chester Township came together on October 9th to build a new playground for the students of Drexel Neumann Academy. Drexel Neumann is a K-8 school supported by a partnership between Neumann College, Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, Saint Katharine Drexel Parish, and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, to provide a quality education to children in Chester.
The build team began construction at 7:00 a.m., and the playground was completed in time for a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:30 p.m., at which time the new, safe playground and adjoining basketball court were presented to the 190 students of Drexel Neumann Academy. The children then got a chance to play on the playground and the basketball court for the first time.
“At Keystone Mercy, part of our mission is to help build healthy communities. And we believe in the power of collaboration in making the lives of community residents healthier and happier,” said Anne Morrissey, President, Pennsylvania Managed Care, Keystone Mercy Health Plan. “Our mission is consistent with that of Drexel Neumann Academy; that is, to provide a safe environment that helps children learn and grow.”
This is the fifth playground build for Keystone Mercy Health Plan’s Safe Playground Program, the intent of which is to reduce the number of preventable injuries suffered by children, while encouraging healthy physical activity through the construction of safe play areas. Keystone Mercy believes that safe play areas promote healthy exercise that improves a child’s ability to learn.
