Community Comes Together to Help North Philadelphia Students Stay Safe

Keystone Mercy Health Plan Continues Safe Playground Program at Logan Elementary School

September 16, 2008
Philadelphia, PA
– More than 75 Keystone Mercy Health Plan employees, contributing sponsors, volunteers from the National Comprehensive Center for Fathers, and students from LaSalle and Temple Universities participated in a day-long playground build at Logan Elementary School on September 16th.

The team built a new playground for students of the Head Start program and the lower grades of the elementary school, and installed two full-sized basketball courts with backboards and hoops for older students to enjoy.  The build day team also installed benches near the playground and a fence to keep the area safe, and painted a large mural to beautify the area.  Approximately 450 Logan School students will benefit from these new facilities.

“We at Keystone Mercy are pleased to help a school and a community that is working so diligently to provide students with a better quality of life and a safe environment," said Anne Morrissey, President of Pennsylvania Managed Care, Keystone Mercy Health Plan.  "This project, and our partnership with Logan School, fit perfectly with our mission to help people get care, stay well, and build healthy communities.”

This build project was part of Keystone Mercy Health Plan’s Safe Playground Program, an initiative that aims to reduce the number of preventable injuries sustained by children through construction of safe play areas.  This was the fourth playground build since the program began in 2007.
